ICONA Avalon’s History
Developer and CEO of ICONA Resorts Eustace Mita had ties to Avalon, New Jersey long before he began building hotels. Eustace’s great uncle owned one of the first hotels in Avalon, NJ, The Puritan Hotel, and one of his first jobs was as a busboy at The Princeton. Avalon was always a second home to this Philadelphia native and owning a hotel there remained his greatest goal.
Commanding a full beachfront block in storied Avalon, New Jersey, the Golden Inn had been a Shore landmark for 50 years. Eustace recognized the uniqueness of the property and it was the top hotel in Avalon, NJ, that fit with his vision to build beachfront properties with stunning views of the ocean. For 15 years, he knocked on the door of the Golden Inn, hoping to convince the owners to sell. Finally, in December of 2015, Eustace’s dream came true. He purchased the hotel and planned to convert the iconic Golden Inn to ICONA Avalon.
